BSNL or Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is India's largest Communication Service Provider (CSP), and seventh largest in the world. Previously known as DoT (Department of Telecommunications) when it was under federal government control, it became a corporation in 2000. BSNL operates across the length and breadth of India (except the metropolitan cities of Mumbai and New Delhi which is managed by <a href="broadband/mtnl"><acronyn title="Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited">MTNL</acronym></a>, a sister concern.) and commands over 45 million landlines and mobile connections.
<p>BSNL launched its ADSL broadband service - DataOne in early 2005, and is well underway in extending the service to over 200 cities and towns in India. An initial sunrise period wherein downloads were unlimited ended on June 30th.</p>
